چکیده

Echinoderms are a major group of marine invertebrates that often play integral roles within the ecosystem. Studies about their occurrence, abundance, and distribution in Venezuela focused central-eastern coasts; hence aim this study is to describe echinoderm community north-western coast Gulf Venezuela. Samples were collected from three sites Venezuelan Guajira Peninsula (Castilletes, Porshoure, Kazuzain) where patchy coral reefs seagrass meadows abundant. According substrate, two methods performed using quantitative (1 m² quadrates), qualitative free-diving observations. All organisms counted identified lowest possible taxonomic level; finally, diversity (Shannon index), richness (number species), dominance different sampled substrates recorded. The updated list echinoderms reported research, includes 20 genera, 15 families, 10 orders, four classes, 28 species. richest class was Ophiuroidea, with 18 species, followed by Asteroidea, Echinoidea Holothuroidea, species each. Castilletes sampling site higher number (18 Porshoure (15 lastly Kazuzain (12 species). Our observations indicate abundance when found (21 80.69% total individuals) contrast beds (16 19.31% individuals collected). This represents 11.54% phylum areas Venezuela; it suggested percentage greatly influenced differences habitats alongside

Syllidae (Annelida, Polychaeta) from the Caribbean coast of Venezuela

Venezuela possesses a great variety of coastal environments allowing for a high diversity of marine species. However, systematic studies on marine invertebrates are scarce, especially on polychaetes. The family Syllidae is poorly known, and only 14 genera and 42 species have been reported from this country. A total of 13 genera and 26 species the Syllidae were identified from benthic samples co...

Variability of coastal suprabenthic assemblages from sandy beaches of the Caribbean coast of Venezuela.

The suprabenthos or hyperbenthos is the macrofaunal assemblage of small-sized organisms that interact for some time in the benthic boundary layer. Information about the taxonomic composition and role of suprabenthic species, especially in littoral zones, is scarce and scattered. This work attempts to contribute alleviate this problem. We analyze the temporal and spatial variations of suprabenth...

Massive Variability Surveys from Venezuela

At the Venezuela National Astronomical Observatory we are carrying out variability surveys spanning many hundreds of square degrees near the celestial equator, using an 8k x 8k CCD Mosaic Camera optimized for drift-scanning on a 1m Schmidt telescope. Among the initial efforts was a project to obtain the first moderately deep, homogeneous sample of young stars over an area of ∼ 180sqr.deg. encom...
